2nd Trophy for BLACKPINK Star

Two years after Lisa and her BLACKPINK bandmates rocked the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, the group’s youngest member returned to take over the VMAs once again. This time, it wasn’t just about representing BLACKPINK, but also about cementing her solo career as she took home the Best K-Pop award for the second time.

From her first steps into New York City’s UBS Arena, Lisa’s arrival at the 2024 MTV VMAs made a statement as she stepped out onto the red carpet in a custom embroidered Mugler corset dress from the brand’s creative director, Casey Cadwallader,’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection.

At the VMAs, Lisa took the stage first for a fiery performance of her latest solo hits, “New Woman” and “Rockstar.” Decked out in a striking red leather outfit, the Thai superstar stunned the crowd (including apparent fan TikTok star Addison Rae, who, according to audience camera footage, sang along to “Rockstar”) to perform her first new songs since launching her record label LLOUD and signing to RCA Records.

But Lisa’s most meaningful moment of the night probably came when she returned to the stage to accept the coveted Best K-Pop award for “Rockstar,” presented by MTV legend and original TRL Host Carson Daly celebrated her impact as she broke through as an artist in her own right, especially as she faced stiff competition from Jung Kook of BTS’ “Seven” featuring Latto, NCT Dream’s “Smoothie”, Tomorrow X Together’s “Deja Vu”, Stray Kids’ “LALALA” and NewJeans’ “Super Shy”.

Lisa thanked the prize winner in English, as she always did, shyly yet cheerfully, and she even added a little Thai to her speech.

“‘Rockstar’ was a meaningful comeback for me after ‘Lalisa,’ so this is very, very special to me,” she told the cheering arena. “Thank you to the RCA family and Team LLOUD and BLINKs and Lilies all over the world,” referring to BLACKPINK’s fans and the nickname after Lisa’s own fans.

Though she had already broken new ground when she won Best K-Pop in 2022, becoming the first female and lead soloist to do so, Lisa made history again by becoming only the second artist ever to win the Best K-Pop category more than once. The 27-year-old is still the only female and solo artist to have done so.

Lisa’s 2024 win cements her position as a global force, pushing boundaries in both K-pop and pop music in general.
