Bridge fire destroys over 50,000 acres, impacting LA and San Barnardino counties – NBC Los Angeles

The Bridge Fire continues to burn over 50,000 acres as of Thursday morning, making it the largest active fire in California.

According to Cal Fire, there are currently 51,167 burning with 0% containment.

The fire was first reported on September 8 around 2:00 p.m. in the Angeles National Forest. The fire quickly expanded, spreading from Los Angeles County into San Bernardino County.

According to the fire brigade, about 40 houses and huts have burned down.

Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday declared a state of emergency for several areas due to the bridge fire, the airline fire and the airport fire.

A state of emergency was declared in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange and Riverside counties.

“We are using every resource available to us,” Newsom said Wednesday. “Thankful for our heroic firefighters and first responders who are working around the clock.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
