Currently a well-marked low pressure area has developed over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and surrounding regions. This low pressure area is expected to continue moving northwestwards towards Uttar Pradesh with possible re-intensification into a depression by tonight. It is likely to move northwards towards Uttarakhand and weaken by Friday evening.

Therefore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted rains for the entire central and northwestern India.

Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is expected in West Madhya Pradesh on September 11. Rainfall of more than 250 mm is expected in some areas of North Madhya Pradesh and West Uttar Pradesh in the next 24 hours. These regions are at risk of flash floods, landslides, rising river levels and lowland flooding.

In addition, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur on a large scale over East Rajasthan from 11 to 14 September and over Delhi and Haryana from 11 to 15 September. Vidarbha region of Maharashtra may also witness similar weather on 11 September.

In response, the IMD has issued an orange alert for East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Madhya Pradesh from September 11 to 13, while West Madhya Pradesh has been issued a red alert on September 11, followed by an orange alert for the next two days.

Expected impact on Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh

• Localized flooding of roads, waterlogging in low-lying areas and possible closure of underpasses, especially in urban centers of the affected region.
• Periodic reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall, affecting both pedestrians and vehicles.
• Reduced visibility in coastal waters due to sea spray caused by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
• Traffic disruptions in major cities, with flooded roads leading to longer travel times and possible diversions.
• Minor damage is expected to unpaved roads and rural infrastructure.
• Increased risk of damage to vulnerable structures and weak buildings.
• Local landslides, mudflows, landslides and subsidence are possible, especially in hilly or erosion-prone areas.
• Potential damage to horticulture and standing crops in certain regions due to flooding, with consequences for agriculture.
• River flooding can occur in certain river basins.
