Rain fell in parts of the capital on Thursday, with the maximum temperature reaching 27.9 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal, the weather service said.

A maximum temperature of 32.6 degrees Celsius was measured on Wednesday.

The city is under a code orange, which means you should be prepared as extremely bad weather is forecast.

According to the weather service, the warning warns of possible disruptions to transportation, including rail, road and air transport. Power outages are also likely.

According to the weather service, relative humidity fluctuated between 100 and 87 percent during the day.

The city was battered by rains on Wednesday night, with Safdarjung, the main weather station, recording 16.3 mm of rainfall at 8.30 am.

As per the data, other stations recorded 16 mm at Lodhi Road, 15 mm at Ayanagar and 13 mm at Pitampura and SPS Mayur Vihar.

According to the India Meteorological Department, Delhi’s main weather station at Safdarjung recorded 933.6 mm of rain this season, against the normal 586.9 mm, a 57 percent increase over the usual figure.

In September there were 10 rainy days. According to the IMD this is a day with 2.5 mm or more of rainfall.

Flooding and traffic jams occurred in several places. Police shared photos and videos to inform people about the disruptions and to suggest alternative routes.

“Traffic on Old Pankha Road on the carriageway from T Point Uttam Nagar East Metro Station towards Pankha Road was disrupted due to a large pothole and on GTK Road on both carriageways from Mukarba Chowk towards Azadpur Chowk and vice versa due to waterlogging at GTK Depot,” the Delhi Traffic Police wrote in a post on X.

Traffic on MB Road from Khanpur T Point towards Mehrauli and Rohtak Road was also affected.

The weather service predicts mostly cloudy weather with moderate rain for Friday.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius respectively.
