Cattitude! – Bring on the cats

Well, that was fun!

On a perfect night for football, Kansas State took the field in a non-conference matchup against new Big 12 opponent Arizona. The Prairie Cats crushed the Desert Cats 31-7 in a game that started out tight and really picked up steam in the second half.

Avery Johnson’s show was part exhilarating, part dispiriting, and for a brief moment at the end of the first half, a downright mystery. The kid can run, we all know that, and when he’s up, he can be a good passer. He’s young, he’s going to make mistakes, but Johnson is also a great front runner. When the team is ahead, he knows how to step on the gas and get the job done. Hopefully he grows enough into the QB role to be able to show those same skills when the game is still uncertain.

The defense showed up. Arizona was limited to 324 yards on offense, its lowest total in two years. That includes limiting those Wildcats to just 56 yards on the ground. But the key play was absolutely Keenan Garber’s balletic interception into the end zone, where he flew in front of a receiver to cleanly grab the ball out of the air, a beautiful feat that will forever be treasured in highlights.

And speaking of highlights: Dylan Edwards can fly and Special Teams U is back!

Special shout out to the crowd at The Bill last night. I’m convinced the Arizona drive that was stalled by multiple penalties was due to the crowd. We need more of those guys throughout the season.

Meanwhile, Kansas State is 3-0, and with our team back in the locker room, we can sit back and enjoy a full day of college football. This is your open thread. Make it your own.
