Once a Taylor Swift Man, always a Taylor Swift man.

A clean-shaven Ebony Moss Bachrach was named Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy at the 2024 Emmys on Sunday night. It’s actually the second time this calendar year he’s won the award, thanks to scheduling, but who’s counting? For his work in The Bearbut another furry friend, not of the bear variety, has his heart.

“Thank you to my parents, they take such good care of my cat,” he said from the stage, before thanking his human children.

In season two of the critically acclaimed dramedy (its awards status as a “comedy” was the butt of many jokes throughout the evening), Moss-Bachrach’s Richie embraces his true self as both a Suit Guy and a Taylor Swift man, culminating in a triumphant sing-along to “Love Story” while driving through Chicago in his car. He didn’t get another explicitly Swiftie-coded moment in season three, but his charming double shout-out to his parents and his cat somewhat makes up for it.

And really, that guy loves that cat. Moss-Bachrach rarely posts on social media, but one of his most recent Instagram shares is simply a photo of Sonny the cat, with the fitting caption: “Sonny!”

It could be that what he was thinking up there, his chin turned to the world, was simply that he loved his cat. He could be winking at fellow cat lover Swift, who not only helped his character get his big moment but also recently gave her seal of approval to Kamala Harris for president with “Taylor Swift, childless cat lady.” Since he couldn’t quite join in with the thousand little “childless cat lady” teases directed at the Republican vice presidential nominee JD VanceBeing neither childless nor a lady, he swore allegiance to the Fancy Feast lifestyle and progressive politics as best he could.

Moss-Bachrach was also responsible for another of the evening’s most charming moments: when he won, his co-star Hello Edebiri jumped up to hug him, then reacted with delighted surprise when Moss-Bachrach also reached across her to shake her father’s hand in congratulations. The family atmosphere and love—that Jeremy Allen White which was referred to in his acceptance speech, and which Edebiri related Vanity Fair about – couldn’t have been clearer.
