Coastal layer brings heavy rain and wind to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, NC (WITN) – Onslow County and areas along the Crystal Coast were hit with rain and wind from the storm on Monday.

A tornado warning was in effect for Southern Onslow County on Monday afternoon.

Norm Bryson with Onslow County Emergency Services said driving is the biggest concern when it comes to the storm. “It doesn’t have to be a lot of water to cause hydroplaning,” Bryson said. “Really take your time, plan it out, drive safely. Don’t drive beyond your line of sight and make sure you get to your destination safely.”

Jacksonville resident Jermaine Morrison says he already takes precautions when driving. “I think the biggest thing is just to slow down and be aware of everyone and what they’re doing.”

Morrison has lived in the area for a while so he is used to the weather we saw on Monday. He says if you are not, it takes time, but safety comes first.

“Over time you get used to seeing the puddles of water,” Morrison said. “You just learn what to do, like slow down, take your time and be aware.”

Sneads Ferry and Holly Ridge are expected to bear the brunt of the storm later Monday evening.
