SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — Hundreds of thousands of Amazon workers in the US are getting a pay raise, with Utah’s pay even higher than most.

Amazon announced this week that it is raising wages across the country by an average of $1.50 per hour, a 12% increase.

However, wages for workers at Amazon’s Salt Lake City distribution center will increase by $2.25 per hour, which equates to an additional $4,500 per year.

The company also offers Amazon Prime for free to employees.

This is all good news for the online retail giant’s more than 800,000 employees.

The wage increase brings the average base wage at Amazon to $22 per hour.

This comes as Amazon may want to retain employees and hire more people as the busy holiday season approaches.

No explanation was given for why Amazon workers in Utah received a higher pay raise than workers in other states.

According to Amazon, there are 7,500 full-time and part-time employees in Utah.
