Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Opens Up About Awkward Sideline Exchange With Robert Saleh

There was a lot to like about the Jets’ convincing win over the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

Aaron Rodgers and the offense looked its best yet in this young season and the defense held the Patriots back from getting traction all night. But there was one strange moment that was captured by the broadcast.

In the second quarter, Rodgers went to the head coach Robert Saleh on the sideline. Saleh tried to give his QB a hug, but Rodgers stuck his forearm out to block it before he said anything.

After the victory we finally know what really happened.

“It wasn’t awkward at all,” Rodgers said with a smile. “He’s not usually a hugger, so I didn’t know he was going for the hug. He also likes to do the two-hand chest push.

“He talks a lot about a two-point lead. So I gave him a little push and said, ‘two-point lead.’ That’s what happened.”

“Some of the stuff we talked about is giving the defense a two-score lead,” Saleh said with a laugh. “It was a two-score lead, so he wanted to see something from the defense.”

Rodgers certainly saw something from the Jets defense. Gang Green allowed the Patriots just 139 yards of total offense and tackled the quarterback seven times.

But it wasn’t just the defense. The Rodgers-led offense racked up 400 yards of offense and had 27 first downs. Rodgers’ two touchdowns went to Garrett Wilson And Allen Lazardof Breece Hall and scored his third touchdown for the Jets.

It was a team effort from the entire squad, which is what the Jets wanted to see after losing to the 49ers in the season opener and narrowly beating the Titans in Week 2.

But now with a 2-1 record for the first time since 2015, the Jets will get some much-needed rest before hosting the Denver Broncos again in MetLife.
