News New York Yankees: Juan Soto Cut at Last Minute

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: After initially being listed as the starter in right field last night, Juan Soto was a late scratch for the game. After a play on Thursday in which Soto slid into a wall and went limp, the initial decision to start him last night was a welcome surprise. Aaron Boone cited “soreness and swelling” in the superstar’s left knee as the reason for the scratch, according to Bryan Hoch, noting that X-rays were negative and no additional tests were planned.

MLB Trade Rumors | Darragh McDonald: In a somewhat surprising move, the Yankees have designated Ron Marinaccio for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Cody Poteet to be activated from the 60-day IL. Marinaccio, a 29-year-old right-handed pitcher, had a 3.22 ERA in 101 relief appearances over parts of three seasons with the Yankees. The move makes Poteet an option to crack the playoff roster as a long reliever.

New York Post | Ryan Glasspiegel: Glasspiegel reports that the Yankees are seriously considering Dave Sims to replace John Sterling as the team’s full-time radio voice next year. The 71-year-old Sims, who was a WFAN anchor earlier in his career, has broadcast Mariners games since 2007. Rickie Ricardo, the Yankees’ Spanish-language radio voice, and Marlins TV announcer Paul Severino are also being considered. Whoever is selected will continue to work with Suzyn Waldman in the booth. The Yankees are not expected to announce a decision until after the season.
