Many schools in western Washington are still closed due to power outages

Many schools in the Puget Sound region are closed in the wake of the deadly “bomb cyclone” that downed trees and left hundreds of thousands in the dark.

The entire school districts in Bellevue, Renton, Kent, Mercer Island and Issaquah are closed Thursday due to ongoing power outages.

Other districts are keeping some schools closed but opening the doors to others.

In Seattle, Nathan Hale High School and Wedgwood Elementary are without power and closed Thursday.

In the Snohomish School District, the following schools will be closed Thursday: Cascade View Elementary, Central Emerson Elementary, Dutch Hill Elementary, ECEAP, Machias Elementary, Riverview Elementary, Centennial Middle School, Snohomish High School and Parkway Campus.

Auburn schools closed due to power issues include Rainier, Lake View, Willow Crest, Arthur Jacobsen and Virginia Cross Native American Education Center.

All Federal Way and Lake Stevens public schools are open and operating on time.
