Fourth tropical disturbance in the Atlantic; will it affect Florida?

A fourth tropical disturbance formed early Saturday morning in the Atlantic Ocean and is being monitored by the National Hurricane Center. It is the latest activity of the 2024 Atlantic hurricane season.

Below you will find the latest news about these systems and their development opportunities over the next seven days.

Central Subtropical Atlantic Ocean (Gordon’s Remnants)

The remnants of what was Tropical Storm Gordon continue to sizzle in the Atlantic. Strong upper-level winds are keeping showers and thunderstorms away from the center of a low pressure area, the NHC said.

The chance of this disturbance developing over the next seven days is low – 10%, according to the NHC. The disturbance is expected to continue moving slowly northwestward across the Atlantic Ocean.

Central Subtropical Atlantic (Invest 96L)

A low pressure area in the central subtropical Atlantic Ocean is producing a few showers and thunderstorms. However, conditions do not seem to be conducive to the development of the disturbance, according to the NHC. The chance of the disturbance developing in the next seven days is 10%.

Northwestern Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico

The National Hurricane Center has again raised the odds for a potential tropical storm developing in the Caribbean Sea, which will likely reach the Gulf of Mexico at some point.

The NHC said in its warning Saturday morning that a broad area of low pressure is likely to form over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and adjacent parts of Central America early to mid-next week.

As the hurricane moves into the Gulf of Mexico, where record ocean temperatures and minimal wind shear exist, conditions are favorable for the possible development of a tropical depression by the end of next week, the NHC said.

Regardless of whether or not a disruption occurs, the system is expected to bring heavy rainfall to parts of Central America over the next few days.

Currently, the probability of the disruption developing in the next seven days is 60%.

Eastern and Central Tropical Atlantic Ocean

A tropical wave is expected to move westward from the African coast on Sunday or Monday.

It is possible that this disorder will develop gradually over the next 7 days. Currently, the chance of development is 30%.
