Oklahoma State suffered a tough loss to Utah on Saturday, thanks to a stunning performance from the offense and coaching staff and a performance that, all things considered, was at least respectable from the defense.

This week, let’s discuss superlatives in an unconventional way.

Offensive MVP: Dorian Singer

To my recollection, this is the first time I’ve ever voted an MVP for a Cowboy opponent, but I just couldn’t justify naming a single offensive player on OSU’s roster as having more of an impact than Singer. In fact, I think two Utes would be at the top of my list.

Utah’s journeyman wideout made backbreaking play after backbreaking play on OSU’s defense, constantly moving the chains. Four of his seven catches were first-down conversions with two on key third-and-long plays. He finished with 95 yards.

Honorable mentions: Micah Bernard, Brennan Presley

Defensive MVP: Trey Rucker

Rucker entered this week as the nation’s leader in tackles, and he improved his average with 14 takedowns of the Utes. In his first four years, he has a total of four career interceptions. He had two in the first half against Utah. It’s a shame that such a great individual performance came in an otherwise forgettable game for OSU fans.

Honorable mentions: Obi Ezeigbo, Kendal Daniels

Game Statistics: The 50-and-Under Club

I have no idea how you could ever investigate this, and I’m too exhausted to undertake such a frustrating and depressing quest, but I wonder if this has ever happened in the same game before.

• Both of OSU’s quarterbacks finished with a completion percentage below 50%.
• No OSU receiver had more than 50 yards.
• No OSU rusher reached 50 yards.

It was an ugly all-around performance from an offense that hasn’t lived up to expectations all year, aside from a one-dimensional drubbing of a bad Tulsa team. And it could have been even uglier if it hadn’t been for those final two TD drives.

Breakout Performance: Isaac Wilson

He wasn’t perfect, but he was good enough. Utah’s freshman backup completed 59 percent of his passes and threw one touchdown and two interceptions, but he was the best quarterback on the field Saturday.

Play of the Match: Trey Rucker’s Pick

We end things on a positive note for OSU fans. This was when the mood inside BPS was much lighter. What a game to come out of nowhere and follow this ball.
