    Goal line D is high

    Wow. A Boston College drive that went all the way inside the Spartan 1 yard line ended in zero points after a 4th and goal stop. A fumble on 3rd and goal nearly resulted in a turnover, but the defensive line broke through on 4th and 1 to get the tackle for loss. The offense now takes over and is now reinforced.

    Defense trade to stop, end of third quarter

    MSU got some breathing room after being backed into their own five, and barely got a point away. A third down bad snap, and a point that was nearly blocked, were hurdles to be overcome, and the Spartans just found a way to get over them. BC takes over at their own 41 with 4:06 left in the third.

    Missed opportunity leads to 51-yard FG from Kim

    The Aidan Chiles rollercoaster is a bit different. A couple of great plays led the Spartans down the field, but Chiles missed a wide-open Montorie Foster that would have run into the end zone. The rain may have played a role in both offenses, but Jonathan Kim seemed unfazed. He hit a 51-yarder to tie the score at 16-16.

    Turnover turns into fast 6, MSU lags behind

    OUCH. The beginning of this half feels very 2023, very sloppy. A major regrouping is needed as MSU now trails 16-13 with 12:20 left in the third quarter.

    Chiles throws second INT

    I don’t think this was the plan that was being discussed in the MSU locker room at halftime. Chiles starts his second half with an interception, right after the failed kickoff return. The defense is in a tight spot again, can they make another stop?

    Fumble on kickoff leads to Boston College FG

    So much for the add. Kayron Lynch-Adams fumbles the kickoff in the second half and BC recovers within ten. The defense stands strong and forces a field goal. Time for the offense to right the ship.

    MSU adds field goal, takes 13-6 lead into halftime

    With four key receivers and rainy weather, Aidan Chiles uses his legs. He’s up to 61 yards on five rushes on the night. MSU saw its drive stall inside the 10, but fired a 26-yard field goal to go up 13-6. That’s your halftime score. With the Spartans scoring to end the half, and a delay of the first possession, they open up a chance to score twice without BC touching the ball to open the second half.

    Chilean elections stall promising campaign

    After forcing a three-and-out, the offense moved straight down the field, aided by a long Chiles first-down run. As the Spartans stepped foot in Eagles territory, however, the turnover virus struck again. Chiles threw an interception to Carter Davis, and Boston College would look to score before the end of the half.

    Attack responds, Chiles rushes to score

    Touchdown MSU! This is how you answer a score. The crowd came to life and the Spartans put together a great drive to silence them (not the MSU fans in attendance). It started with an Aidan Chiles run on thir-and-10, then Kay’ron Lynch-Adams got loose a few times. Chiles then found Jack Velling for a first down, followed by a big play to Montorie Foster, the leading receiver tonight for 40 yards. Chiles ran in the score himself to give MSU a 10-6 lead in the second quarter.

    Momentum shifts towards Eagles

    The Spartans went three-and-out after the fumble and quickly paid for not being able to capitalize. Boston College used 11 plays to march down the field and drive in a touchdown. BC running back Treshaun Ward found a rhythm and drove in the score. MSU, however, was gifted a rainy missed PAT and the score remains a 6-3 field goal spread.

    Defense is strong in the red zone

    MSU’s defense has been playing the bend don’t break mantra many times this year, and they’ve done it again. After Boston College went off the field, the Spartans got a fumble recovery. The offense will take over again.

    MSU kicks FG, takes early lead

    Michigan State special teams leads 1-0 tonight. With the offense taking advantage of the plus territory, Jonathan Kim kicked a 41-yard field goal. Tight end Jack Velling caught a huge first-down pass from Aidan Chiles. With all the injuries to the receivers tonight, he could be under a lot of pressure.

    Three-and-out start for the defense

    Impressive opening stand for the Spartans in a charged environment. A short punt gives the offense the ball in plus territory. The rainy conditions make special teams a huge key tonight. Something to keep an eye on.

    Michigan State will take its undefeated record on the road and into ACC country to take on Boston College under the lights. It will be Michigan State’s final non-conference game of the regular season.

    After a 40-0 win over Prairie View A&M, Michigan State is looking to build on the momentum it built early in coach Jonathan Smith’s first year in East Lansing. Quarterback Aidan Chiles has shown flashes of brilliance and the defense looks much improved compared to last season.

    Boston College will be a tough test. The Eagles have looked impressive so far this year, opening their season with a road win at then-No. 10 Florida State. They followed that up with a shutout win over Duquesne and were in the top 25 before losing 27-21 at No. 6 Missouri. Boston College is led by first-year coach Bill O’Brien, who is the former head coach at Penn State and the NFL’s Houston Texans.

    Saturday’s marquee game is also Boston College’s annual “Red Bandanna Game,” honoring Boston College lacrosse alumnus Welles Crowther, who is credited with saving more than a dozen people from the South Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
