Travis Kelce looks miserable on Chiefs bench as concerns mount

Travis Kelce played little role in the Chiefs’ third straight win to open the 2024 NFL season.

The All-Pro tight end appeared somber as NBC cameras filmed him on the bench with the Falcons holding a 14-10 lead over Kansas City before halftime.

Kelce, who was limited in the passing game in Kansas City’s first two wins, finished with four catches on five targets for 30 yards in the Chiefs’ 22-17 win over the Falcons in Atlanta on Sunday night.

The three-time Super Bowl champion, who is known for his cheerful personality, was spotted rubbing his eyes and looking down before staring into the distance.

He now has eight catches for 69 yards and zero touchdowns.

Kelce, in his 12th season in the NFL, was again outshone by sophomore wideout Rashee Rice, who caught one of Patrick Mahomes’ two touchdown passes.

Mahomes targeted Rice heavily in Week 2 when the Chiefs defeated the Bengals 26-25 in the final minute on Sept. 15.

Kelce, 34, had just one catch for five yards against the Bengals, with a 41-yard catch in the fourth quarter overturned due to a holding penalty on Kingsley Suamataia.

He had three catches for 34 yards in the Chiefs’ season opener against the Ravens.

After his performance on Sunday, which left his girlfriend Taylor Swift out of the stands after attending the first two games of the season, he is now on pace for just 391 receiving yards this season.

Kelce discussed his slow start on his “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason Kelce after Week 2.

“I used to get really, really angry and almost lose my cool because I didn’t have that success, knowing that I demanded that of myself and I just like playing the game with such a high level of responsibility that it’s just hard for me to deal with mediocrity or the stats that represent that,” Kelce said last Wednesday.

The Chiefs (3-0) will play the Chargers (2-1) in Los Angeles on September 29.
