When to expect downpours on Tuesday

The rain tank has collected 1 to 2 inches of rain between Friday and Monday. This has helped, but will not completely eliminate the drought in Michiana. Tuesday could add another 1.00 inch of rain to the ground, but that will be accompanied by isolated heavy downpours and thunderstorms. High temperatures will be held in check, only warming to the low 70s. The best chance for rain will be during the morning rush hour and the afternoon/evening rush hour. The chance for rain and thunderstorm potential will diminish rapidly after 7:00 PM. The remainder of the forecast will feature the mid to high 70s through Friday and near 80 degrees on Saturday and Sunday. Depending on the track of a tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico, we could have tropical moisture in the area late Saturday and Sunday.

TUESDAY: Scattered rain throughout the day. Lightning and thunderstorms possible at times. Our best chance for downpours will be during both morning and evening rush hours. High around 70F. Low 60F. Wind E shifting N at 10 to 15 mph.

WEDNESDAY: Mostly cloudy with a few showers. Expect some sunshine later in the day. High around 70F. Low 52F. Wind NW at 5 to 10 mph.

THURSDAY: Partly cloudy and dry. High around 80F. Low 58F. Wind ENE at 5 to 10 mph.

FRIDAY: Partly cloudy. High around 80F. Low 60F. Wind ENE at 10 to 20 mph.

OUR NEXT FIRST WARNING: A cool start to fall. Temperatures early in the week are just or even a degree or two cooler than average. By midweek we will warm up to the mid to high 70s with occasional highs of 80F on Friday and Saturday. Rain chances are higher for much of Tuesday and then taper off by midweek. We still have a chance for showers into the weekend, but much remains to be resolved regarding a potential tropical system forming in the Gulf of Mexico and how far north its remnants will travel. It is important to note that all burn bans are still in effect in Michiana, even with the newfound rainfall. A new updated drought forecast will be available Thursday.
