Latest Country Music Awards Updates

The 58th annual CMA Awards will take place live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena tonight, kicking off at 7 p.m. Stay tuned here for all the news and updates as they happen.

George Strait joined an A-list of artists, including Jamey Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton and Parker McCollum, in a live performance as they honored the Texas Troubadour with the Country Music Association’s Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award

After the performance, Strait stood at the microphone waiting for the raucous applause and standing ovation to die down before he could be heard.

“I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ,” Strait said calmly.

“It was so great to hear all these amazing artists making my songs. I’m just glad I got them before all of you,” he joked.

As for his collaboration with Lambert, McCollum previously told The Tennessean that the performance continues a series of “dream scenarios come true” of alliances with the “Kerosene” singer, with whom he collaborates on the duet “Santa Fe” from her album “Postcards” from 2024. From Texas.”

“She, like me, is a Texan,” he said. “But she is also a true superstar in her own right who I have been a fan of for as long as I can remember. It is always a special honor to work with and learn from her.”

“Troubadour,” the triple-platinum-selling title track from Strait’s 25th studio album, has been a favorite of McCollum’s sets since his teenage roots onstage.

“George Strait’s music was playing when I was in the womb because my mother was such a fan of his. It’s the first music I remember hearing and falling in love with as a child,” McCollum added to.

Cody Johnson seemed surprised when announcers mentioned his name as the winner of Album of the Year for “Leather.”

He approached the microphone and said, “I never thought there would be a time to do a Rick Flair, but now’s the time,” and followed it with the famous “Woooow!”

“I literally leaned over to my wife before they called out the winner’s name and said, ‘Jelly has this,’” Johnson said.

Old Dominion made history with their seventh win for Vocal Group of the Year. The band has won the award seven years in a row, breaking the record for most consecutive wins in the category.

The win also broke the “One Man Band” group’s tie with other bands Little Big Town, Rascal Flatts and The Statler Brothers.

As Old Dominion took the stage to accept their award, singer Matthew Ramsey addressed the crowd. “I thought, ‘I don’t know how we got here,’ but then I realized I know how,” he said. “We did it as a band. We worked together and worked with each other as a band.”

“We have to thank all the bands that came before us,” Ramsey continued. “Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama, Lady A, Zac Brown and all the guys who paved the way for us.”

Carrie Underwood joined Cody Johnson on stage for his performance of the duo’s song “I’m Gonna Love You.” Although Johnson’s appearance was announced, Underwood was a surprise.

When thinking of a duet partner for the song, Johnson immediately knew who it should be.

“It had to be Carrie or no one, because I knew she could deliver a special performance that would push me to take my work to the next level. When we recorded the song, we discovered a key that wasn’t too high for me or too was low for her, found a naturally perfect harmonic blend,” Johnson previously told The Tennessean.

The “Am I OK” singer took home the trophy for New Artist of the Year in a category packed with rising new talent. Moroney walked to the microphone and said, “I hope I can get through this without crying” before thanking those who helped her get to this point in her career, as well as her fans.

Alabama native Riley Green and Ella Langley’s pairing for the radio and social media favorite top ten country hit “you look like you love me” arrived on stage at the CMA Awards on Wednesday night.

In a year where neo-traditional country styles have continued to resurrect themselves into the genre’s mainstream, the Come Here duet combines two already buzz-worthy and rising stars – Green is a country chart topper and singer behind the underground favorite ‘I Wish Grandpas Never Died’. ” while Langley is a member of the CMT Next Women of Country class in 2024 – has caused the most unlikely stir.

“You can’t open a phone, walk on a stage or turn on a radio somewhere without hearing it. Everyone dives in,” Green jokes while discussing his performance with The Tennessean.

Post Malone and Chris Stapleton kicked off the 58e annual CMA Awards with a performance of “California Sober” before the show was turned over to hosts Luke Bryan, Peyton Manning and Lainey Wilson this year.

The three exchanged opportunities to poke fun at each other a bit before landing the monologue’s winning joke.

Wilson said, “We learned this year that Cowboys Cry Too,” referring to Kelsea Ballerini and Noah Kahan’s duet of the same name.

Manning interjected and added, “But enough about Jerry Jones,” mocking the Dallas Cowboys owner for the team’s unspectacular football season.

Scrolling through the night’s list of performers, an announcer mentioned that Shaboozey would be performing tonight, before referencing his hit song “A Bar Song (Tipsy).” Bryan came in with “Yeah, we call that a ‘Sha-doozey.’ ”

Billy Ray Cyrus weighs in on criticism of Beyoncé’s CMA Awards, calling her album ‘brilliant’

Country music’s Billy Ray Cyrus weighed in on his Instagram account Wednesday, congratulating all the CMA Award nominees while defending Beyoncé who didn’t land any CMA nominations for her Grammy-nominated album “Cowboy Carter.”

Cyrus and Lil Nas

“I’m so happy and proud to see country music open their doors and be accessible to all people, all styles,” his post read.

He went on to say, “I was surprised to see @beyonce wasn’t nominated??? Her album was brilliant… her single judged. But she knows that. She doesn’t need a trophy from the CMA… or permission… or approval from one of their judges. “If you knock them out… you don’t need a judge.”

The CMA Awards air tonight at 7pm on ABC.
