Sun vs. Fever, Lynx vs. Mercury on Wednesday

play

The Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty have locked up two of the semifinal spots in the 2024 WNBA playoffs. Can the final two be secured?

On Wednesday, the Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx get a chance to advance to the semifinals and set up a playoff rematch from last season. On the other side, the Indiana Fever and Phoenix Mercury fight to keep their seasons alive and force a win-or-go-home Game 3 on their home courts. Not only do the Fever and Mercury face elimination, but it could also mark the end of Caitlin Clark’s rookie season, and potentially Diana Taurasi’s last play for Phoenix, or even in the WNBA.

Here’s what you need to know about Wednesday night’s play-offs:

  • Time: 7:30pm ET
  • Television, streaming: ESPN
  • Location: Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut
  • Series layout: Sun leads 1-0

What happened in Game 1? Alyssa Thomas had her fourth career postseason triple-double, blowing away Clark’s playoff debut 93-69. The veteran Sun broke away from the Fever in the second half to take the series lead.

What’s at stake? A win for Connecticut would advance to the semifinals. A win for Indiana would force a Game 3 with the Fever as hosts on Friday night.

No. 2 Minnesota Lynx vs. No. 7Phoenix Mercury

  • Time: 9:30pm ET
  • Television, streaming: ESPN
  • Location: Target Center Minneapolis, Minnesota
  • Series layout: Lynx leads 1-0

What happened in Game 1? Phoenix rallied from a 23-point deficit to take the lead in the fourth quarter, but Minnesota held off a late surge to win 102-95. Napheesa Collier scored a personal best 38 points in the playoffs, four shy of Breanna Stewart’s playoff record of 42 points.

What’s at stake? A win for Minnesota would advance to the semifinals. A win for Phoenix would force a Game 3 with the Mercury as hosts on Friday night.
