Georgia’s Kirby Smart on Alabama: ‘We don’t have an answer for (Jalen) Milroe’

Kirby Smart saw what you saw in the first half on Saturday night at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Alabama, behind Jalen Milroe, jumped out to a 30-6 lead behind Jalen Milroe. The quarterback has thrown for 106 yards on nine carries for two touchdowns. He has thrown for 199 yards and another score.

“The biggest thing is we have to get some stops,” the Georgia coach said at halftime. “They were really explosive tonight. We don’t have an answer for Milroe. He’s a great athlete, a phenomenal athlete. We had trouble tackling him. We don’t have the edges. They did a good job throwing him out of nowhere. That was new. We have to make some stops.”

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Milroe is making the most of the opportunities.

“He stays true to himself,” he said at halftime. “We put him in good spots, guys block for him. … He’s really made progress and you see him doing what we ask of him. He feels comfortable with it now.”

The Tide has rolled up 355 yards to Georgia’s 153, but Smart, a former Alabama defensive coordinator, said the Bulldogs’ offense is not okay.

“Our offense wasn’t bad,” he said. “We just can’t get the offense on the field. We have to stop him and turn the ball over.”

DeBoer added that both Alabama’s offense and defense are aggressive and taking advantage of opportunities.
