Bulletin board material: Yankees star says Royals ‘got lucky’ to win Game 2

The Royals defeated the Yankees to tie their ALDS on Monday night.

Kansas City scored more runs, had more hits and one fewer error, but don’t expect Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm to give the surprising Royals any credit.

Chisholm, who was acquired from the Marlins midseason, was asked how different the series felt compared to after Game 1, which the Yankees won.

His response was nothing short of message board material.

“It still feels the same, that we’re going to win it, you know? I don’t feel like anyone feels different, you know? We go out there and still do our thing,” he said. “We still don’t feel like any team is better than us. Like you said, we had a lot of missed opportunities tonight. So they were just lucky.”

That’s a bold move as the series shifts to Kauffman Stadium, which hasn’t hosted a playoff game since the Royals won the World Series in 2015 and will surely rock for Game 3 on Wednesday.

There’s also the fact that the Royals weren’t lucky. They crushed Yankees starting pitcher Carlos Rodon, who gave up four runs on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings. They also earned three hits with runners in scoring position, while the Yankees went 1-for-6.

Chisholm, for his part, hit a solo home run in the ninth inning.

The Royals will send Seth Lugo to the mound on Wednesday, while the Yankees will counter with Clarke Schmidt. First pitch is set for 7:08 PM
