Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard sues village officials and trustees over board meeting held at park district building

DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) — Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard is suing some village officials over Monday’s meeting.

In court documents filed Tuesday, Henyard, along with trustees Andrew Holmes and Staley Brown, accused the other trustees of holding the meeting illegally.

Dolton’s village manager and the Dolton Park District are also named in the lawsuit.

On Monday, the majority of the trustees held their monthly meeting at the Park District building. The Illinois attorney general had said the village hall is not legally suitable for the crowds that usually attend the meetings.

Henyard tried to hold a separate meeting at the village hall, but she canceled it and went to the park district.

She was booed from that meeting.

Henyard said she had taken steps before the meeting to bring Village Hall into compliance, but she accused other village leaders of failing to respond.

Henyard is asking a judge to designate Village Hall as the primary location or business and to invalidate any business done at Monday’s meeting and last month.

ABC7 has reached out to the trustees named in the lawsuit, the village manager and the Dolton Park District, but has not heard back.
