Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol and Former World Champion Anthony Crolla’s Undercard Predictions

Former lightweight world champion Anthony Crolla shares his thoughts on the undisputed clash between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol, as well as the undercard.

All belts are on the line as Beterbiev and Bivol face off in Saudi Arabia. It’s a boxing fan’s fantasy fight, but thanks to Turki Alalshikh it’s actually happening!

It’s a phenomenal card with fantastic battles from start to finish and has been put together as part of the Riyadh season. I’ll get to the main event later, but I’m excited about every fight

Ben Whittaker will have a lot of attention on him as he comes into contact with Liam Cameron, who is a winner in life after overcoming his demons after receiving a very strict ban over a recreational drug issue, and then losing his stepdaughter in a tragic accident.

It’s going to be a tough night for Liam, there’s no denying that. Ben is an incredible talent, but he still has a lot to prove. He likes to showboat, and that’s fine, but if you want to be anything like Prince Naseem, you need to start taking out your opponents! I think this fight will make a big difference again with a points win for the showman. Fair to Ben, he knows how to get attention. My little boy and all his friends are all over him on Tik Tok – he’s doing huge numbers.

There is a top female fight between Skye Nicolson and Raven Chapman. It’s a real contrast of styles, with Skye being a slickster, very hard to hit, against Raven, who is a great pressure fighter with a good motor. I think Skye will remain in the background while Raven tries to track her down. I think Skye will build an early lead and while things will get awkward for her in the later rounds, I think she will win a points decision. It’s definitely the biggest test of both girls’ careers.

I have to be honest; I know very little about Chris Eubank Jr.’s opponent Kamil Szeremeta. No disrespect, but this is the only fight on the card I’m not that excited about. However, I think Eubank is entertaining and I imagine he will put on a show and get the break halfway through.

When I look at the big heavyweights, I honestly can’t pick a winner between Frazer Clarke and Fabio Wardley, who landed a barnstormer a few months ago. You look at this and think, ‘who could improve more from the first fight?’ I may be leaning towards Fabio Wardley for his inexperience, but there were so many moments in the fight where it looked like one guy had it wrapped up and then it swung the other way. Both men are confident, it could be the fight of the night, but I honestly can’t decide. I really don’t know and I’m sorry, but I’m going to have to sit on the fence!

There is another top match in the cruiserweight division with a rising star of the sport in Jai Opetaia against Jack Massey. Jai is a very violent man! I’m a big fan. But listen, Jack has a great attitude, and he jumped up to heavyweight with Joe Parker and gave a great account of himself. He won’t get upset, and ‘one punch’ can hit Jack! That said, in a bit of a shootout, the smart money should be on Jai quitting around round six.

Now onto the light heavyweights, and it’s a major event that greatly divides opinion. I have my prediction, but I might change my mind! In Beterbiev you have a fighter who has incredible strength, but he is much more than just that. Then you have someone in Bivol who has a style that can beat him. Both are undefeated and fighting for all the marbles and it is truly a fascinating fight. I just don’t know if Bivol has the firepower to keep Beterbiev at bay. When he beat my mate Callum Smith – who hits very hard – he couldn’t command Beterbiev’s respect. I could be wrong because Bivol could very well put up a very disciplined fight and beat him like he did to Canelo. But my prediction is that Beterbiev wins by late stoppage, around the ninth or tenth round.
