#10 Purdue falls in 5 set Heartbreaker to #2 Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. – The No. 10 Purdue volleyball team went the distance with the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers, scoring extra points in the fifth set, 22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 22-25, 15-17. The Boilermakers nearly recorded their highest win since 2011, but their serving proved to be their Achilles heel, conceding 19 service errors in the match.

The Boilermakers had the fifth set lead at 15-14 after a block assist from Raven Colvin And Kenna Wollardbut the Husker responded with a 3-0 run to decide the game. Purdue went flawless in the fifth set, posting 13 kills and a .481 clip.

The Boilermakers’ efficiency was excellent as they shot a total of 0.311% in the game, while the Huskers stayed at 0.242% and out-blocked the home team 15-5. It was a Big Ten season highlight for the Boilermaker block.

Eva Hudson posted a double-double behind a season-high of 26 kills and 15 digs. The junior hit at a .349 clip (26-4-63) to lead the offensive effort. In the meantime, Chloe Chicoine totaled 22 kills on the season to go along with 13 digs at a .327 clip (22-4-55) and 5 assists on the season.

Setter Taylor Anderson rounded out double-doubles with 52 assists, 10 digs, 7 blocks and an error-free three kills on four attempts to pace the team and produced Purdue’s only service ace.

Raven Colvin led the block with 11 total on the night.


In the fifth set alone, there were 13 ties and four lead changes and a total of 40 ties in the match.

With the result, Purdue suffered its fourth loss of the season, all against top-10 opponents, as the team moved to 12-4 (3-2 Big Ten). Meanwhile, Nebraska improves to 15-1 (5-0 Big Ten).


Purdue travels to Iowa tonight and plays again tomorrow at 7:00 PM ET.
