Was Céline impersonating Dion at the Olympics?

Céline Dion won worldwide admiration when she performed a grand French love song in the driving rain from the Eiffel Tower during the final of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.

Her moving version of Édith Piaf Hymne à l’amouraccompanied by a rain-drenched pianist on the tower platform, was hailed by organizers and fans alike as a musical achievement, given the weather and Dion’s two-year absence from the stage due to a debilitating health condition.

This week, however, the release of her “live from the Paris 2024 Olympics” was tempered by news that the world was not hearing Dion’s voice, but a studio recording that had been altered to improve her pitch.
