Landon Knack didn’t give Dodgers a chance

Heroes, Zeros and the full blitz of the Mets’ Game 2 win over the Dodgers on Monday:

Hero

Mark Vientos used the intentional walk as inspiration.

After seeing the Dodgers intentionally put Francisco Lindor at first base, the third baseman hit a grand slam that provided all the scores the Mets needed.

Zero

Ryan Brasier ended the Dodgers’ scoreless inning streak, but Landon Knack ended most of their hopes of stealing the game.

The Dodgers’ expected bulk reliever lasted just two innings, giving up five runs, including the Grand Slam to Vientos.

Unsung hero

Phil Maton, Ryne Stanek and Edwin Diaz (right) strung together four innings where they weren’t charged with a run, each inheriting a jam and each navigating their way out.

Stands

The Dodgers’ 1-to-5 hitters went a combined 0-for-19 at the plate.

Sean Manaea and the Mets bullpen either threw around (the group walked five) or threw through (nine strikeouts) LA’s best bats.

Quote

“I took it personally.”
