Adam Sandler is known for his striking gifts, with which he made the cast famous Adults all Maseratis for the lead role in the film, but it seems his generosity falls short when it comes to actor Henry Winkler.

Speaking about the Let’s talk off camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Winkler revealed that when Sandler called him in the middle of the night and asked him to star as Coach Klein in the 1998 sports comedy The Water Boy, the thank you note Sandler gave him was missing.

“I did water boy,Winkler explained it to Ripa. “He (Sandler) called me in the middle of the night and said, ‘Henry, I need a favor. My actor didn’t show up. I want you to drive to the park in LA right now.” And now it’s 11:30 at night and I said, ‘Okay.’ I shave, I drive, I go, I sit. I get makeup until 3:30 in the morning,” Winkler said.

“And you know what I have?” he asked Ripa. “A cookie.”

‘But you made three films with him. There’s no Maserati for Henry Winkler?’ Ripa asked incredulously.

“I wasn’t even allowed to keep my wardrobe,” Winkler laughed.

When asked by Ripa what kind of car he would like to get into in an ideal Sandler world, Winkler said: “I don’t want a Maserati because it would be so low to get into, I would have to sleep in it. I’ll never get there out.”

Instead, he opted for a small Lexus version of the SUV.

He may have only gotten a cookie, but it looks like Sandler gave Winkler something on set The Water Boy—a lesson in cigar smoking.

Winkler said: “While making water boy, I had my first Cuban cigar,” adding that he now only smokes Cuban cigars when he goes fishing.

Why did Sandler give all his ‘adult’ co-stars a Maserati?

Sandler, who wrote and starred in Adults, David Spade, Kevin James, Chris Rock and Rob Schneider reportedly gave Maseratis a value of around $200,000 after the film wrapped.

However, he did not warn them about the generous gifts coming their way.

In an interview with Kevin Nealon, Spade revealed, “He (Sandler) gave us all a Maserati. Chris Rock called me and he said, ‘Would you like to look in your driveway?’ and I say, ‘No,’ and he says, ‘Go up and call me.’ So I go outside and they pull a car into my driveway, and I ask, “What’s going on?” and they say, ‘Adam Sandler.'”

Spade continued, “I say, ‘Oh, is this his car, should I pay attention to it?’ And they say, ‘Yes, it’s for you.’ I call Rock and I say, “I keep Adam’s car here for some reason,” and he says, “No, that’s for you, we all have one.”

Later in an interview with Jay Leno The tonight showSpade admitted he was too “embarrassed” to drive the car.

Rock, for his part, joked that the car came with strings, telling host Howard Stern, “Now I think I’m Adam Sandler’s motherfucker.”

Sandler turned out to be the highest-paid actor of 2023, with his work earning him an estimated $73 million. This is largely due to the lucrative deal he has with Netflix, which is reportedly worth $250 million.
