Bills release Marquez Valdes-Scantling after two catches with team

The Buffalo Bills traded for former Pro Bowl wide receiver Amari Cooper. Someone had to go to create space.

Buffalo released Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Tuesday.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s Bills career ended after two catches. That’s one catch per Super Bowl ring the seven-year veteran owns.

Valdes-Scantling, 30, signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Bills in May. He’s a 6-foot-4 wide receiver who came in with more than 3,000 career yards as a deep threat teaming with future Hall of Fame quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes.

Valdes-Scantling’s reps decreased during training camp, he was inconsistent in practice and didn’t seem to develop a bond with Josh Allen. His snap count was 39% through the first six games.

Buffalo acquired Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and 2026 seventh-round pick.
