The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is spreading its wings for the first time since 2018.

The retailer announced the return of its annual runway show in an Instagram video in May, saying, “We’ve read and heard the comments” in response to the six-year hiatus.

L Brands, the former parent company of Victoria’s Secret, canceled the show in 2019, citing the decision to end the fashion show at the time to “evolve Victoria’s Secret’s marketing” amid declining ratings and criticism of body positivity .

The show, which returns in its full form after half a decade after the brand premiered a scaled-down version on Prime Video last year, will air Tuesday nights from New York City.

The runway show, which launched in 1995, featured performances from A-list artists including Rihanna, Ariana Grande, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, and highlighted models such as Heidi Klum and Kendall Jenner. This week the brand announced that USA icon Adriana Lima would return to the show, and in late August it was announced that Gigi Hadid and Tyra Banks would also appear on the USA stage.

Tuesday’s show marks Banks’ first US fashion show in two decades. Here’s how to watch the return of the iconic fashion show.

What time does the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show air?

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs Tuesday at 7 PM ET on Amazon Prime Video and the brand’s official YouTube page. The runway show made a semi-return last year with Victoria’s Secret’s “The Tour ’23,” a “reimagined” event streamed on Prime Video.

The official pink carpet pre-show takes place Tuesday at 6:30 PM ET.

Which models and artists will appear in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2024?

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will feature legendary supermodels including Lima, Banks, Barbara Palvin, Jasmine Tookes, Ashley Graham, Candice Swanepoel and Behati Prinsloo.

The show will feature performances from a range of female artists: Blackpink singer Lisa, Tyla and music legend Cher.

Tuesday’s runway show marks a return to the US stage for Lima, one of the brand’s most iconic models of all time. In November 2018, the supermodel pulled out of the event that made her a household name in the fashion industry.

Lima, then 37, was walking solo and was visibly in tears as she reached the end of the runway, as the crowd stood to cheer the supermodel as she walked into her 19th and final US show. The model, now 43, also opened up about her departure from the star-studded annual event in an Instagram post at the time.

“Dear Victoria, thank you for showing me the world, sharing your secrets and most of all for not just giving me wings, but teaching me to fly,” she wrote in the caption.

Conspicuously absent from this year’s model lineup is Jenner.

What’s new about the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show?

In an updated brand values statement published in August, the company now says it stands for “celebrating all women.”

“We focused on what our customers want and need – and making sure they are proud to shop at Victoria’s Secret,” the statement said. “We’ve gone from promoting an exclusionary view of what’s sexy to celebrating all women at every stage of their lives.”

The statement continued: “We will continue this work and strive to become an industry leader in retail innovation, fashion, sustainability and continued ingenuity, getting to the heart of what our diverse customer base wants.”

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was canceled due to controversy

In 2019, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was canceled amid a wave of controversy.

In May of that year, the brand said it would reconsider the show. In a statement sent to company employees at the time and obtained by USA TODAY, ex-L Brands CEO Les Wexner revealed the show would be going in a different direction.

“Fashion is a business of change,” Wexner said in a statement in 2019. “We must evolve and change to grow. With that in mind, we have decided to rethink the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. In the future, we will don’t believe network television is the way to go.”

“Given the decline in performance at Victoria’s Secret, we have materially withdrawn capital investments in that business as we focus on ensuring our products resonate with customers,” L Brands said in its third-quarter earnings report.

The show’s 2018 audience of 3.27 million viewers was its smallest since it became a holiday TV event in 2001, with Nielsen saying the show had lost more than half its television audience in a two-year period .

But that wasn’t all. In an interview with Vogue in November 2018, Ed Razek, former head of marketing for L Brands, said he did not think the show should feature “transsexuals” because “the show is a fantasy.”

“If you’re asking if we considered putting a transgender model in the show or looked at a plus-size model, we did,” he added. “We tried to do a plus-size TV special (in 2000). No one was interested in it, still isn’t.” He later apologized for his comments, telling readers they “appeared offensive.”
