Tom Brady can have his cake and eat it too. And while his new partners have made it more difficult to serve as both owner and Fox broadcaster, none of them opposed Brady’s attempt to have it both ways.

According to Brady’s statement Tuesday night: the vote was unanimous.

That obviously doesn’t mean the First the vote was unanimous. Sometimes a second vote is held to send a message of unity, even if in reality there was not and is not one.

The fact that Brady opened his statement with that statement shows that it was terribly important to him.

Even though he has never (as far as we know) publicly mentioned the league’s decision to ban him from team facilities, production meetings and practices because of his Fox appearance, he is certainly aware of the problem. On some level, he must understand the argument against trying to be both an owner and someone who behaves ostensibly objective and neutral toward the league’s 32 teams.

He may not like it, but I keep telling him to choose one or the other. Because he should.

To be honest, it’s not like he’s going to be another John Madden as a broadcaster. To be honest, it already seems like Brady won’t be just another Greg Olsen.

Maybe Brady will find out for himself. Owners own, coaches coach, players play, broadcasters broadcast. There’s a reason for those bright lines. Brady’s attempt to own part of a team and broadcast games involving other teams blurs or destroys those boundaries.

Or maybe he just does what he wants. It seems he always has. And it has almost always worked.
