ALBUQUERQUE, NM – We will see scattered showers and a few storms on a mostly cloudy and cool and breezy Thursday for New Mexico.

Our rain chances remain relatively higher, with the peak reaching Saturday before rain falls on Sunday. Temperatures will pick up again next week.

Before then, some of us will get a taste of winter.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Apache County in eastern Arizona, including the Chuska Mountains and Window Rock, from Friday afternoon through 6 a.m. Sunday. Snow is expected above 2,000 meters with accumulations of 7 to 15 centimeters. Gusts of up to 40 km/h are possible.

The San Juan Mountains are under a Winter Storm Watch from 6 a.m. Friday through Sunday afternoon. Heavy snow is expected above 9,000 feet. Accumulations of 12-24 inches, with 40 inches at the highest peaks, and snowstorms with wind gusts up to 45 mph are all possible.

There is a chance of severe to severe storms in the Eastern Plains on Friday and Saturday. These storms can bring large hail and damaging winds.

Thursday will be cool and windy with showers and mostly cloudy skies. View the latest conditions at KOB.com/Weather.
