Heroes, outs from Mets’ Game 5 win: Amazin’s pound Jack Flaherty

Heroes, Zeros and the inside pitch of the Mets’ 12-6 Game 5 victory over the Dodgers Friday night at Citi Field:

Hero

Pete Alonso, who may have played his last home game at Citi Field, made sure he wouldn’t play his last game as a Met.

The Polar Bear hit a three-run home run in the first inning to set the tone.

Zero

Jack Flaherty had nothing, and the Dodgers preferred him to be bombed rather than tapped into their bullpen early.

After allowing two hits in seven scoreless innings in Game 1, Flaherty gave up eight runs in three innings.

Unsung hero

Ryne Stanek posted a career-high 2 ¹/₃ innings, allowing just one run and striking out four in a game that felt much closer than the final score.
