Oregon On3 Massey Ratings’ October 17 Top 25 list is a relative carbon copy of last week’s rankings. The top teams in Oregon high school football continue to hold the top spots while remaining undefeated through the second weekend of October. With the playoffs quickly approaching, here is the state’s top team.

The Lions continue to devour the opposition, helping them become Oregon’s best offensive and defensive team. That defensive tenacity was on display during their 13-0 victory over sixth-ranked Lakeridge. Although they didn’t score like they did in their first five games, West Linn completed their third straight shutout win and fourth in their last five games. The Lions must continue to roar on defense to thwart Lake Oswego in their Oct. 18 showdown.

The Rams earned their sixth win of the 2024 Oregon High School football season after dominating Nelson 37-12. After leading 14-12 at halftime, Central Catholic went on a 23-0 run to maintain its undefeated record. The Rams defense generated a pick six and a safety, increasing the lead from two to eleven. Central Catholic has an average winning margin of 22.33 points through six games. That figure doesn’t bode well for their next opponent, Sandy, on the 18th^e.

The Irish found another gear to further dominate their opponents. From averaging 41.6 points in their first three games, they have scored at least 65 points in each of their next three games. That stretch includes their 66-13 demolition of South Salem, with Mana Tuioti completing 70 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Meanwhile, Sheldon’s defense finished with seven tackles for losses and four sacks against the Saxons. The Irish can extend their winning streak to seven games by defeating 23^rd-ranked South Medford on the road.

The Lakers celebrated their seventh straight victory by defeating Tigard 35-15. Lake Oswego limited the Tigers to 184 yards on offense, including 62 yards on the ground. On the season, the Lakers have never scored fewer than 33 points and have held three opponents to single digits. In addition, they rank fifth in attack and defense. Lake Oswego can improve to 7-0 if they can upset top-ranked West Linn on the road.

The Timberwolves returned to the win column after losing to fourth-ranked Lake Oswego. Oregon City was no match for Tualatin, as the home team limited the Pioneers to six points. The Timberwolves have had a rollercoaster ride in their last four games, alternating wins and losses. However, things don’t get any easier when they visit sixth-place Lakeridge for their next match.

The Pacers’ home loss to West Linn ended their five-game winning streak. Lakeridge’s fortunes turned as they earned a shutout win against Oregon City last week. Despite the loss, the Pacers proved their status as the second-best defense in Oregon high school football by limiting the state’s top-ranked team to 13 points. Maintaining that tenacity on defense should give them the edge in their highly anticipated showdown with Tualatin.

The Crusaders’ season-opening loss to Tualatin is a distant memory after reeling off five straight wins. In their last game, Jesuit dominated Beaverton by scoring a season-high 61 points thanks to 447 total yards on offense. The Crusaders can move to 6-1 with a win against Mountainside on the 18th^e.

The Bowmen have been on pace lately, reeling off three straight wins. Their most impressive victory came in the 2024 Oregon High School football season against Century, when Sherwood essentially closed out the game after the first two quarters by building a 43-0 lead. After playing their last two games at home, the Bowmen will be on the hunt when they visit McMinnville next Friday.

A loss to Lakeridge ended what could have been a flawless run for the Wildcats. However, they have won two games in a row, beating Central/Kings Valley and Canby. While Wilsonville’s defense limited the Canby Cougars to six points, quarterback Mark Wiepert had 25 completions for 362 passing yards and six touchdowns. Nick Crowley caught three scoring throws as part of his 134 yards output. Although they have found their groove as of late, a tough challenge awaits Wilsonville during their visit to Silverton.

Make it three straight wins for the Foxes after beating Central 48-6. Silverton is riding high after their humiliating loss at home to fourth-ranked Lake Oswego. Since then, they have averaged 41.3 points per game, which ranks them ninth in the offensive rankings. Conversely, the Foxes limited their opponents to 47 points overall, with two teams scoring in single figures. Silverton’s season continues as Wilsonville hosts on the 18th^e.
