Harvey Weinstein has rare bone marrow cancer and is being treated in prison | Ents & Art News

Disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has bone marrow cancer, a report in the US has revealed.

Sky News’ US partner network NBC News says two sources told me Weinstein72, is undergoing treatment in prison on New York’s Rikers Island for chronic myelogenous leukemia, a rare form of cancer that attacks white blood cells.

In a statement to NBC News, Weinstein’s representative Craig Rothfeld said they will make “no further comment” out of “respect for Mr. Weinstein’s privacy.”

Representatives for Weinstein have previously said he suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure, spinal stenosis and fluid in his heart and lungs.

Last month, he underwent emergency surgery to remove fluid from around his heart and lungs and in July he was in hospital after testing positive for COVID-19 and contract double pneumonia.

His health concerns come as Weinstein awaits a retrial on his 2020 rape and sexual assault conviction, which was overturned by New York’s highest court in April.

The Court of Appeal ruled that he did not receive a fair trial because the judge presiding over the hearing unfairly allowed testimony against him on allegations that were not part of the case.

Although that conviction was overturned, he remains in prison for another conviction last year for the 2013 rape of an actress in Los Angeles.

He is appealing against that conviction.

He pleaded not guilty last month to an additional charge of sexual assault.
