Chisholm confident Yankees will win title: ‘We are World Series champions’

Yankees third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s latest bold prediction is that New York will win the Fall Classic despite being just two games into the American League Championship Series against the Cleveland Guardians.

Chisholm’s confidence is high after teammate Aaron Judge escaped his playoff slump in Tuesday’s Game 2 with a homer and three RBIs, giving the Yankees a commanding 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

“We’re World Series champions. No other doubt I think,” Chisholm said ahead of Thursday’s Game 3 at Cleveland’s Progressive Field, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. “I’ve been saying it since Day 1, and that’s without him raking. He’s starting to come together. And now I see it.”

Chisholm already played the villain during the American League Division Series when he said the Kansas City Royals “just got lucky” in a Game 2 win over the Yankees in the Bronx. The 26-year-old was booed in Kansas City, but New York ultimately won the series 3-1. He also accused Maikel Garcia of deliberately trying to hurt Anthony Volpe as he slid into second base in Game 4 and called the Royals third baseman a “sore loser.”

In late September, Chisholm acknowledged that the Yankees had one goal in mind.

“We’re not going to stop until we get that ring,” the 2022 All-Star said at the time. “That’s what I’ve been hearing since I got here, and that’s how I feel.”

The winner of the New York-Cleveland matchup will face the Los Angeles Dodgers or the New York Mets in the World Series. LA has a 2-1 lead in the National League Championship Series.
