I tried Burger King’s purple Addams Family Whopper so you don’t have to. Here is my review

Halloween is quickly approaching, so it’s not uncommon to see spooky and crazy sights while you’re out and about, and if you visit your local Burger King, you’ll see something mysterious and creepy too.

There is a purple Whopper on the menu. You read that correctly. A purple whopper.

But is it all together?

Well, that was the question to be answered when the fast food giant added this offering for the season, and if the opening didn’t give it away, this isn’t just any purple Whopper.

It’s Wednesday’s Whopper, and it’s part of an Addams Family-themed rollout for the restaurant that started on October 10.

“Halloween holds a special place in our brand’s history and we know our guests look forward to the delicious and crazy creations we come up with every year,” said Pat O’Toole, Chief Marketing Officer of Burger King North America. “We know that ‘The Addams Family’ also has an affinity for the scarier things in life, so we’re excited to offer fans not one, but four new versions of their favorite BK products this Halloween season with this Addams Family creations.”

That’s right, the purple Whopper isn’t the only new “Addams Family” item on the menu. BK has also added “Thing’s Rings,” which is just the basic offering of onion rings, as well as Gomez’s Churro Fries and Morticia’s Kooky Chocolate Shake.

This order affected three of the four: Wednesday’s Whopper, Thing’s Rings and Gomez’s Churro Fries.

The shake – BK says it features “creamy soft serve mixed with chocolate cake fudge and topped with black and purple cookie pieces” sounds delicious, but it also seems a bit heavy to play all four in one setting.

You can get Wednesday’s Whopper meal with the rings and a drink for $9.99. You can order the churro fries for $4.

Since the burger was the star, it was worth working from the bottom up to assess what was in the bag.

So here’s a quick summary of each item:

Thing is rings

I’m not a big onion ring guy, but I can go for it every now and then and with the theme – the marketing pitch is fun if you really like the season – I was more than willing to give this one a shot.

For me at least it was a mistake.

When I go for onion rings, I usually go for the whole onion slices, well battered and fried until crispy. These were the chopped onions shaped into a ring and they were not crispy at all.

They were mushy.

So I tossed them aside, but my wife, who loves onion rings, popped them in the microwave, dipped them in the spicy sauce and told me I was being crazy.

She liked them. She’s always right. I think so.

Take it from me: If you’re looking for a good, crispy onion ring that can stand alone, this isn’t it.

Give them a try, don’t forget the spicy sauce and decide for yourself.

Gomez’s Churro Fries

In retrospect, the churro fries were the absolute star of the show.

You can get them in orders of just four to twelve pieces, and they come with a chocolate dipping sauce.

The fries have a nice layer of cinnamon and sugar and look crispy. But when you bite into them, they have a chewiness and a flavor that reminds you of something you might buy at a fair or carnival in the fall.

They didn’t need the chocolate sauce, but if you like chocolate, they were dipped pretty well. A vanilla frosting dip would probably be pretty fantastic with this too.

These arrived cold. They are probably even more dangerous when warmed up.

Get them.

But it was probably wise to skip the shake this round, as only a few of these will spike your blood sugar.

Wednesday’s Whopper

The first concern when dealing with a purple burger is figuring out how on earth they turned this thing purple.

You want to make sure you’re not eating something vague, and to Burger King’s credit, the answer is prominently displayed on the menu. The burger owes its color to the purple potato and is covered with black sesame seeds.

So if we check that box, knowing we’re not eating some crazy food coloring, it’s full speed ahead and… well, it’s a Whopper and Burger King does that well.

Swiss cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, mayonnaise, ketchup, pickles and onions, all fresh and in the right proportions. Flame roasted flavor to boot. It’s a nice, damn good burger.

In fact, it is known as one of the best fast food burgers in the industry among the mega-chains, regardless of the color of the bun.

And just to be clear, the color doesn’t detract from the flavor, but it may turn off some people, and if you’re an Addams Family fan or just enjoy the season, it’s a fun way to top things off. to switch.

Final verdict

Skip Thing’s Rings and go for the fries, grab the burger, a drink and make absolutely sure you get the churro fries for dessert and you’ll have a winning Halloween combo courtesy of BK.
