Detroit sports fans can officially say goodbye to Bally Sports.

Diamond Sports Group, which owns Bally Sports and broadcasts the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons, announced Friday that its regional sports networks will be rebranded as “FanDuel Sports Network” on Monday.

A total of 16 regional sports networks operated by Bally Sports will now be branded as FanDuel Sports Network, including in Detroit.

That means “Bally Sports Detroit” will now appear on screens as “FanDuel Sports Network Detroit.”

FanDuel has become one of the leading sports betting and casino brands in recent years as sports gambling has grown by leaps and bounds. It is legal in more than half of the states across the country, including becoming legal in Michigan in January 2021.

Friday’s announcement comes after years of uncertainty for Diamond and Bally Sports due to a seemingly endless bankruptcy battle. In early October, Diamond announced his intention to drop the rights to the Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays during a status conference in federal bankruptcy court.

That meant the Tigers would either have to renegotiate their deal or find a new TV home for their games in 2025. Since the news broke, there has been no word on what the Tigers plan to do, and whether they will appear on television. FanDuel Sports Network is unclear at this time.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings and Pistons reached an agreement with Diamond before the season to continue broadcasting their games for the 2024-2025 season.

Although the specific financial agreements were not made public, both FanDuel and Diamond released statements.

“Partnering with FanDuel provides Diamond with an exciting path to enhance the fan experience and deepen the value we bring to our team, the league and our distribution partners,” said Diamond CEO David Preschlack. “This partnership strengthens the opportunities to further strengthen the close bond between our partners. RSNs engage with local fans, including enhancing our DTC offering for a growing digital audience. In the meantime, after we finalize agreements with the NBA, NHL and our key distributors, we remain focused on advancing our business and driving value for our team partners and our stakeholders.”

“Partnering with Diamond gives us the opportunity to place the FanDuel brand at the intersection of the nation’s largest group of regional sports networks,” said Mike Raffensperger, FanDuel sports chairman. “A large cohort of FanDuel customers are dedicated RSN viewers and this agreement allows us to further strengthen the FanDuel brand among sports fans and provides a unique vehicle to reward our users.”
