Texas great Matthew McConaughey is ready for tonight’s crucial showdown against Georgia.

Before Saturday’s big game, the acting legend walked onto the field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and thrilled the 100,000-strong crowd inside the arena.

McConaughey is a Longhorns super fan who can often be seen on the sidelines supporting Steve Sarkisian’s team.

The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs (5-1) are looking to record their third straight win tonight, but standing in their way are the No. 1 Texas Longhorns, who are 6-0 so far this season.

Their meeting in Texas is the biggest college football game of the weekend and a possible preview for the Southeastern Conference championship game or a showdown in the College Football Playoff.

Texas is undefeated midway through its Southeastern Conference debut, with the nation’s best defense, a pretty good offense and the No. 1 ranking that Georgia had at the start of this season.

“The most complete team we’ve seen or faced this year, and probably in several years when you look at what they’re doing,” Bulldogs coach Kirby Smart said of the SEC newcomer.

Fifth-ranked Georgia (5-1, 3-1 SEC), whose only three losses in the past four seasons all came against Alabama, will play in Austin for the first time since 1958 on Saturday night.

The top five matchup with SEC and playoff implications pits former Nick Saban coordinators, who are now two of the highest-paid head coaches in the country, against each other in Texas.

Kirby Smart, with 99 wins in nine seasons at Georgia, gets the highest salary at nearly $13.3 million per year, and fourth-year Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is third at $10.6 million, according to a USA Today salary database compiled by was released this week.

This will be the biggest challenge yet in their new league for the Longhorns (6-0 2-0), who beat reigning champion Michigan 31-12 in Week 2. Georgia won consecutive titles before that.
