New York Yankees could get major pitching additions for the World Series

If the New York Yankees make it to the World Series, there’s a chance they could get some major additions to the pitching staff.

Former All-Star Nestor Cortes has been out since September 25, when he suffered a flexion strain in his left elbow, and has a chance to make the World Series roster.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Wednesday that Cortes had a live bullpen session and if all goes well, he would have another one this weekend.

Boone also said Cortes is very much in play to make the World Series roster if the Yankees get there.

While the Yankees have gotten some extremely strong innings out of the bullpen, adding Cortes to the unit would be a significant addition.

Although he has spent the entire season as a starter, it is likely that the Yankees will continue with their current starting rotation, which consists of Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Luis Gil.

The Yankees currently have Tim Hill and Tim Mayza as lefties in the bullpen, but Cortes would bring another element given his ability to eat up innings.

Of course, the Yankees have to reach the World Series first, and they’re halfway there after winning the first two games of the American League Championship Series.

But this will definitely be something to watch in the coming week, depending on how the rest of the series goes.
