Jeff’s king of the court pick for October 24: Luka Doncic

There are quite a few heavy hitters going into action tonight.

LaMelo Ball shocked the league on Wednesday by claiming the King of the Court title, but I’m hard-pressed to see a dark horse repeating that feat on a small slate on Thursday. When you think of PRA powerhouses (points, rebounds and assists), Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic are the first two names that come to mind. I ruled out Jayson Tatum for a likely blowout against the Wizards and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander for the depth of talent on his team and a tough matchup. Victor Wembanyama was an attractive option, but Dallas kept him relatively under control last season.

So I stayed with Luka and Jokic. While Denver’s big man should fill the stat sheet against Chet Holmgren, there are too many factors working in Doncic’s favor. Firstly, he is fresh after sitting out all pre-season. Rust can be a problem for some players, but not for Luka. He also faces the easiest match of the PRA overall leaders on tonight’s list. Last year, Doncic averaged a whopping 29.3 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists against San Antonio. I expect similar numbers from him tonight on his way to the crown of King of the Court.
