Rams dangling Cooper Kupp from the trading block with a sign

Cooper Kupp could be on his way.

According to The Athletic, the Rams have “called multiple teams” to discuss the idea of trading the star wide receiver.

The report added that the team “has indicated a willingness to take on a portion of the ’24 salary and is seeking a second-round pick.”

Kupp suffered a high ankle sprain during the Rams’ second game of the season against the Cardinals on September 15.

He has since been out, but is expected to make his return for the team’s game against the Vikings on Thursday after taking a full part in practice on Monday.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rams head coach Sean McVay was cagey about whether Kupp will have a limited workload in this week’s game.

“That’ll be something that as we put it together and really dive into it, we’ll get a better feel for it, but we’ll definitely be excited to have him back,” McVay said.

The best season of Kupp’s career came in 2021-22, when he led the NFL in receiving yards and touchdowns and won the AP Offensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl MVP.

When healthy, the 31-year-old Kupp is still a dynamic threat.

In Week 1 this year, he caught 14 balls for 110 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss to the Lions.

In that game, the Rams’ other biggest threat, Puka Nacua, suffered a knee injury and has yet to return.

Those injuries have slowed a Rams offense that was explosive last season when they made a surprise trip to the playoffs.

The Rams are currently 2-4 and in last place in the NFC West. Even with a veteran QB in Matthew Stafford, trading Kupp would be a clear signal that they are rebuilding for next season.

Contending teams that could use a top receiver include the Steelers, Ravens, Chiefs and Bucs.

The NFL trade deadline is November 5 at 4:00 PM ET.
