Gabe Vincent mentions a unique part of JJ Redick as head coach of the Lakers

After an injury-riddled first year, Gabe Vincent is finally healthy and appeared in five of the six Lakers preseason games during their practice schedule. With a full training camp under his belt, Vincent now has more insight than fans at home how things are going under Lakers coach JJ Redick.

After the team’s preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, he discussed how Redick can criticize and address issues with the team without berating his players.

“Overall, I think JJ has been a great communicator first and foremost,” Vincent said. “Whether he raised his voice a little bit, it never felt like we were being yelled at, if that makes sense. It seems more like he had to tackle something seriously, he addressed it, we took the message and applied it in the next half. He did a fantastic job communicating with the boys and getting his message across very clearly.”

Something else that has been evident so far this preseason is the kinship between Vincent and Redick. After the Lakers coach scored his first win, Vincent made sure he got the game ball.

It’s fair to be skeptical of anyone who likes Redick so far, but when multiple players are all saying the same thing on different days, there has to be some truth to it.

Redick wasn’t just a great communicator with his players. He communicates well with the media and shares more information than previous coaches about where he is currently seeing things.

We know Redick’s starting lineup and understand that he wants a nine-man rotation, currently with LeBron James, Anthony Davis, D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, Max Christie, Jaxson Hayes, Dalton Knecht and Vincent.

It was refreshing to hear about the good vibes during the preseason and Redick joking about his basketball sickness, but now that training camp and the preseason are over, now is the time to get that communication out on the hardwood.

The Lakers open regular season action on October 22 at home against the Minnesota Timberwolves, last season’s Western Conference finalists. That should be a good test of where this team currently stands against the NBA’s best.
