Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s landlord tries to file eviction papers – NBC Chicago

The landlord of a Dolton home rented to embattled Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her boyfriend tried to file an eviction notice Tuesday over the couple’s missed rent payments before a meeting in Thornton Township was canceled due to a lack of quorum.

Genetta Hull, Henyard’s landlord, arrived at the Thornton Township meeting Tuesday in an attempt to recover money she owes while serving an eviction notice on Henyard, the Thornton Township supervisor.

“Now I have to pay for a special process server to have them served, which is more cost to me,” Hull said.

According to Hull, the house was rented to Henyard and her boyfriend Kamal Woods in 2021.

Hull said she last received a payment in August and initially filed eviction papers in September.

Hull said she now owes $5,000 in back rent, in addition to back fees, adding that Henyard and Woods did not appear at the Zoom hearing on the case Tuesday morning.

“The sheriff has been here a few times to serve them. For a household that makes over $350,000 a year, I’m asking for pennies,” Hull said.

Hull said she also has not been able to gain access to the home or the home’s garage to perform maintenance.

“I gave them 48 hours notice and texted them. There is a code on the garage and a lock on the front door that have been changed,” Hull said.

An attorney for Henyard told NBC Chicago they had no comment at this time.

Hull said she regrets renting to Henyard and Woods.

“I don’t think the money is worth it, the money up front. I would have preferred to rent to someone who is honest and hardworking. As mayor, you would think they would maintain positive civic standards. You don’t ‘I don’t see these people just feeling like they can do whatever they want,’ Hull said.

The case is back in court Tuesday at the Markham courthouse.

Henyard is also under federal investigation for her roles as mayor in Dolton and as supervisor in Thornton Township.
