Cardinals could pursue Dodgers playoff hero for offensive help in 2025

The St. Louis Cardinals finished the 2024 regular season with an 83-79 record, missing the postseason for the second straight year. Now they seem prepared for some kind of rebuilding.

However, just because they’re about to rebuild doesn’t mean they’re going to blow up their roster. They must at least hope to avoid another season like 2023, when they finished 71-91 and fell to last place in the National League Central.

They probably won’t make any major additions this season, but they can still make impactful moves. Maybe they can target Enrique Hernandez.

Hernandez is having a torrid postseason with the NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The 33-year-old is hitting .303 with two home runs, five RBI and an .863 OPS.

His regular season numbers weren’t great, as he only hit .229 with a .654 OPS, but he did hit 12 home runs and drive in 42 runs. The veteran brings power from the right side of the board, can play multiple positions on the court and can also be a clubhouse leader as St. Louis has a ton of young players.

Hernandez is also not far removed from a 20-homer season in 2021 with the Boston Red Sox, so if he gets the chance to play every day, he could certainly be an impact player and provide a spark to their offense.

Think of him the same way as Brendan Donovan, but from the right side of the board.

It’s offense that sunk the Cardinals in 2024. We’ll see if they consider an addition like this for 2025.
