Texas technology‘s four-game winning streak may have come to an end a week ago, but a chance at recovery is on the horizon with a road trip on tap against Texas Christian. The Red Raiders are now 3-1 in the Big 12 and continue to control their own destiny as part of a tie for second place in the conference.

The Horned Frogs will look to reclaim the saddle trophy currently held by the Red Raiders.

Tech’s win in Lubbock a year ago made it four straight TCU wins in the series, which historically favors the red and black.

The Horned Frogs have had an up and down season so far and appear to be on the rise after a win over Utah in Salt Lake City.

While not quite the level of unrest as the mood was in Waco, the attitude from Fort Worth was largely sour after the Horned Frogs’ losses to SMU by 24 and a disastrous performance Friday night against Houston at home.

TCU is 0-2 at home in Big 12 games.

With a bye week that mirrored what Tech faced, TCU bounced back from the loss to the Cougars with a physical victory over the Utes in a defensive slugfest.

The Horned Frogs are led by Josh Hoover, the Big 12’s passing leader and a top-five marksman in the country.

Hoover has thrown 16 touchdowns and six interceptions so far on the season, a testament to the high-flying offense that Dykes and offensive coordinator Kendall Briles have tried to build.

Hoover is a real Jeykll and Hyde situation.

There are moments of brilliance where his arm talent is on full display, while other times he has made errant throws and struggled to hold on to the ball.

The Horned Frogs have lost a total of nine fumbles this season, which is tied for second-most in the country.

TCU’s running game appears to be a mess: its rushing attack sits firmly at 15th in the league, trailing only Colorado.

The Horned Frogs haven’t completely abandoned the ground game, though, with big wide receiver Savion Williams and former QB Trent Battle taking snaps out of the backfield.

Williams, a sturdy 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, will be a physical challenge for the Red Raiders, in the same vein of what they faced with Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillian. However, the bigger threat to the Tech defense could come in the form of senior receiver Jack Bech.

Bech is currently second in the Big 12 in receiving yards and is one of Hoover’s favorite targets.

If the Red Raiders want to retain the prestigious saddle trophy, the physicality will have to increase from what it was against Baylor. Defensively, the Horned Frogs have failed to stop the run, giving up an average of 164 yards per game on the ground.

TCU has given up more than 200 yards rushing three times this season, though it held Utah to just 68 in one of the most impressive defensive performances it has had this season.
