Strangely enough, and without realizing it at the time, I used the exact same opening word and second guess as yesterday: CRATE followed by BOINK. So much for originality! My first guess got me a lonely ‘A’ in yellow and my second (all new letters) got me a lucky green ‘B’. From here I tried merging them with BALMY, and this worked quite well, reducing my remaining options to just two: BAWDY and BAGGY. It was a coin toss and as I often do, I used the word without a double letter. Fortunately, this time I was right. BAWDY for the win!

A total wash I believe for the third day in a row. 0 for guessing four and 0 for tying the Bot. C’est la vie!

How to play competitive Wordle

• Guessing in 1 is worth 3 points; guessing in 2 is worth 2 points; guessing in 3 is worth 1 point; guessing in 4 is worth 0 points; guessing in 5 is -1 points; guessing in 6 is -2 points and missing the Wordle is -3 points.
• If you beat your opponent, you get 1 point. In case of a draw you get 0 points. And if you lose to your opponent, you get -1 point. Add it up to get your score. Keep a daily running score or play for a new score every day.
• Friday is 2XP, which means you double your points: positive or negative.
• You can keep a running tally or just play day by day. Enjoy!

Contemporary Wordle Etymology

The word bawdy comes from the Middle English word to compressmeaning ‘lewd, obscene’. This term is derived from matchmakerwhich referred to someone who encouraged immoral or promiscuous behavior, especially a merchant or pimp. Matchmaker itself came from Old French buoymeaning ‘cheerful’ or ‘bold’, and the sense of risqué humor that developed in English in the 16th century.
