The Warriors star David Harris dies at the age of 75

David Harris, one of the stars of the 1979 cult classic The Warriors, has died of cancer. He was 75.

Harris’ daughter confirmed the actor’s death to the New York Times and revealed how he died at his New York City home on Friday after a battle with the disease.

He was best known for playing headband Cochise in the film, which famously featured gangs battling it out on the rough streets of 1970s New York.

An eternal war ensues, with the eponymous gang The Warriors emerging at the center.

This gave Harris his big break, before starring in a number of films in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. On TV, he appeared in episodes of Law & Order and NYPD Blue, along with ER and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

After his death, tributes poured in quickly.

“Shocked and saddened by the passing of David Harris, also known as the original Cochise from The Warriors,” Lin Manuel Miranda wrote on Instagram on Saturday. The Hamilton playwright recently wrote a concept album based on the Walter Hill-directed film.

“We celebrated a little over a week ago and gave him his flowers for his unforgettable performance,” Miranda continued, sharing a recent photo of the star.

‘Grateful for that moment with him. Our hearts are with his daughter and a host of family and friends.”
