Lions NFL trade deadline rumor tracker: Here are pass rushers to watch

The NFL trade deadline is just over a week away and the Detroit Lions are expected to be a shopper.

The Lions are currently the top team in the NFC at 6-1 and may be looking to strengthen the roster for a chance at the franchise’s first Super Bowl appearance. The Lions have suffered significant injuries on the defensive side of the ball, including a season-ending leg injury to star passer Aidan Hutchinson, and could use extra firepower defensively in the final three months of the season.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday, November 5 (also Election Day) at 4:00 PM. General manager Brad Holmes has shown he’s willing to make in-season trades before shipping TJ Hockenson to the Minnesota Vikings and acquiring wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones from the Cleveland Browns last year.

Here are the latest updates from the NFL trade deadline.

Dan Campbell says trade ‘could happen’

Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday from Allen Park that the team is still looking at options on the trade front. Asked if he thinks a deal is imminent, Campbell said: “It could be. Yes, it could.”

When a reporter asked if Holmes had come to him with a deal, Campbell playfully jumped in the air and said, “Yes, he could.”

Josh Uche edge rusher traded to Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs were the first team to dip their toes into the edge rusher market. On Monday, the NFL’s last undefeated team sent a 2026 sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for outside linebacker and former Michigan football player Josh Uche. It is the third trade involving a defensive player in the NFL this year and the first involving an edge rusher.

Oct. 18: Za’Darius Smith trades with Lions

Cleveland Browns defensive end Za’Darius Smith told a Cleveland Browns reporter “it might look good” if he was traded to the Lions. The Browns (2-6) are well out of the playoff race and could offload a veteran like Smith, who is 33, in exchange for draft picks.

Maxx Crosby and Raiders owner refute trade rumors

Maxx Crosby, a Michigan native and Eastern Michigan alumnus, is one of the best pass rushers in the NFL on one of the worst teams, the Las Vegas Raiders. But he said he wants to remain a Raider and Las Vegas owner Mark Davis bluntly told ESPN that a Crosby trade won’t happen. So it’s likely that Crosby and his 6½ sacks in seven games will remain in Sin City this season.

Defensive targets for the Lions to target

Outside of Smith, it is highly unlikely that the Browns trade superstar Myles Garrett, but could trade another edge rusher from their deep front seven, such as Ogbo Okoronkwo. NFL.com also listed Denver Broncos edge rusher Baron Browning, who is in the final year of his contract, as a potential player who could be moved. The Athletic reported that Jadaveon Clowney of the Panthers and Preston Smith of the Packers are two other edge rushers expected to attract trade interest. USA Today also added Dolphins defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah.

Should the Lions trade for another position?

That option is always on the table for Holmes, but it doesn’t appear to be necessary for the Lions as one of the best teams in the NFL. The Lions have found production from the reserves at all three levels of the defense and have found ways to make it work without Hutchinson, Marcus Davenport and Derrick Barnes in the front seven.

The Lions could look to add a strong linebacker to replace Barnes, but have found ways to replace his production from a linebacker room that the Lions’ coaches collectively call the deepest group they’ve ever had. They’ve gotten increased production from Malcolm Rodriguez, who left the win over the Titans early with an ankle injury, Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Trevor Nowaske to team with Alex Anzalone and Jack Campbell. The Lions used a lot of resources in the secondary in the offseason and it has paid off, as a healthy group has turned into a turnover-forcing machine.

On offense, they have depth at the tackle and interior offensive line position and showed the depth at receiver Sunday without Jameson Williams as he served the first of a two-game suspension. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery have combined for 1,006 rushing yards and even Hendon Hooker has two wins to gain some experience behind Jared Goff, who is dealing.
