Bruins has no answers after a setback loss

BOSTON – After Saturday’s win over Toronto, the Bruins hoped they had found a winning formula.

After Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to the Flyers, they were back at the drawing board.

“It’s not good enough. Don’t know. We’re just not playing,” said coach Jim Montgomery, whose team is 1-3-0-1, including two shutout losses in the last four games. “We don’t do enough to generate high-risk scoring opportunities. Whether that’s the will to go to those areas or not, the right game plan. It’s all our fault that we didn’t come out with a win tonight.”

Montgomery said the team’s stars need to start playing like stars.

“I think in every team your best players and star players have to carry the weight and the load offensively,” he said. “These are the players who are looking for power play. The violation is not an issue for us at this time.”

He said simplifying things is step one.

“It’s a lot of things. It seems like some guys are still battling it as far as their confidence and their ability to just be smooth with the puck on the ice,” Montgomery said. “There are areas where we need to be better. Whether it’s getting the puck to the net quicker when people are there, not passing up shots or building our team attack, which sometimes we do, sometimes we don’t. It’s a combination. But now it really comes down to decision-making

Hampus Lindholm agreed with his coach.

“If the pucks aren’t going in, it’s going to be frustrating,” he said. “It’s the simple things that will get you out of it. I went to tough areas and put the pucks in good spots.
