ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1228, hints, clues and answers for Tuesday, October 29

How time flies when you’re having fun. Or if you’re not having fun! Time just seems to fly and fly, without regard for us mere mortals. We’re just one day away from Halloween. I chose a costume: The Dude van The Great Lebowski. I even found the exact clothes he was wearing, so I bought that instead of a costume. The real sweater, the pajama pants, the sunglasses. It’s the kind of clothes you can wear all the time. It’s funny, the Dude was such a bum, but he wore nice designer clothes and expensive sunglasses. Go figure.

It’s Wordle Wednesday, so here’s your riddle:

I can start or end a war. I can give you the power of heroes or leave you powerless. One look may ensnare me, but no force can compel me to stay. What am I?

I’ll post the answer tomorrow, but feel free to message me if you solve it!

Anyway, it’s Wordle time!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot here.

PEARL was once again a good starting bet. With eleven words to go, you’d think things might have gone better for me, especially since I already had so many boxes. I almost gambled on STEAL, but I was afraid that if I didn’t try more letters I would have too many possible answers. BUNGS was an attempt to cut as many words as I could, and it worked almost like a charm. With EASEL and STEAL left, I went with my first choice and . . . Unfortunately, I was wrong. ESEL for the win!

Contemporary Wordle Etymology

The word donkey comes from the Dutch word donkeywhich means ‘donkey’. This term was adopted in the 16th century and reflects the idea of a donkey as a supporting pack animal, similar to how an easel supports a canvas for painting. Over time, donkey was adopted into English with the same meaning.
