“All phases, we just weren’t good”: Norvell searches for answers after 0-2 start to season

Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is searching for answers after his team’s 0-2 start to the season, which saw both teams lose to ACC opponents and both teams put up embarrassing performances.

“I’m just tired of how this season started. Obviously I let the team down tonight by reacting,” Norvell said after the loss. “I apologize to the fans, I apologize to everyone involved with the program — that was extremely disappointing.”

“All phases, we just weren’t good.”

The Seminoles were the underdog from the start in Monday night’s 28-3 loss to Boston College, allowing the Eagles to control the ball for much of the first quarter and ultimately the game. By the time the clock hit zero, Boston College had controlled the ball for 38:09 of the game, compared to 20:51 for FSU. The Seminoles had no drives last more than three minutes, while the Eagles averaged 3:15 over their 12 minutes.

Boston College was most lethal on the ground, just like last week against Georgia Tech, scoring 267 points, compared to just 21 points from FSU.

“Our third-down execution was extremely poor. They ran the ball, we didn’t. We missed some opportunities, we had some opportunities in the game to make a move, but we made mistakes that were extremely costly, and they took advantage of it.”

“We need leaders to step up. We need to keep pushing in all areas of what we do, and we need to do it together. There’s going to be a lot of negativity around this program. I understand that… But as a football team, you need to stand together.”
